Kevin's Guide to SteemIt

People in the modern age lead by following.

SteemIt Guide - On Following Accounts

I've used many social media platforms through the years including Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr.

On some platforms it is necessary to follow accounts to get seen. This is not the case on SteemIt.com.

SteemIt.com is about upvoting.

When I started using SteemIt.com, I wasted time searching for accounts to follow and I made the mistake of following the accounts that followed me.

The accounts that follow new users are most often bots selling resteem services. They are a waste of time.

Very few of the accounts I've followed bothered following me back. Worst off, they rarely upvote my posts.

I quickly stopped caring about follows. Searching for accounts to follow was a waste of time.

SteemIt.com is about upvoting. The better approach to SteemIt.com is to search for interesting votes in the created section. The URL steemit.com/created shows all recently created posts. The url steemit.com/created/keyword shows all recently created posts for a keyword.

Upvote the posts you find interesting. If you can think of something that contributes to the post; then leave a comment.

If the person upvotes and replies to your comment, or if they come to your page and upvote your posts; then you should follow them.

Following an account puts posts from their account on your homepage. You should keep that page clean and only list the people who are willing to engage with you. Keeping your feed clean will improve your experience.

I wasted time autofollowing accounts. My home page turned into a swamp filled with garbage posts from resteem services. I ended up purging the bots from my follow list.
